Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu urged Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. Mansukh Mandavia to set up a state cancer institute in his home district, Hamirpur.

During his meeting with the Union minister in New Delhi on Thursday, Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the cancer institute could be set up at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur on priority under the National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CBD and Strokes.

Sukhu said in view the alarming rate of increase in cancer cases in the state this institute is the need of the hour.

He also requested the minister to create a super speciality block at Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College under PM Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.

The chief minister apprised the Union Minister that there is an outreach of Community Health Centres (CHCs) and Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the state and the state government was strengthening health infrastructure up to rural level.

He added that now the government was focusing upon strengthening Super Speciality infrastructure.

Sukhu also requested to increase the capacity of the Mother and Child Hospital wing from 100 to 200 beds in the Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College Hamirpur.

The chief minister urged the sanctioning of four trauma centres at Civil Hospital Ghumarwin and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College Ner Chowk along Chandigarh-Manali National Highways, Civil Hospital Dharampur on Parwanoo-Shimla NH and Civil Hospital Palampur on Pathankot-Mandi NH for providing trauma care to the commuters including tourists in case of road accidents.

Sukhu also requested a speedy process of approval and provided funds for setting up three Nursing Colleges at Chamba, Hamirpur and Nahan.

The Union minister assured of all possible assistance to the state.
